Yesterday, after taking my wife to dinner (with a gift card we got for her birthday) we decided to take our walk at Lowe's. We both love the hardware stores. We're watching our money (who isn't) so we wandered the aisles looking for clearance deals. We found some stuff for friends and three presents, and some 3" single wall b-vent (3' long) for about $13.00.
I love to check the display model sales and such. I've gotten some pendant lights and a sink, for about 15% the cost of retail. So it's a small bit of reusing something that's almost new.
I am in Lowe's and Home Depot often. They have at least six seasons, so seasonal items get clearanced, every 2 months or so, look for the yellow tags. Sometimes the deals aren't very good, but last night we found some empty shelves where lighting had been reduced from $34.99 to $3.99 and from $58 to $7.97. Oh well, can't win them all.
Below are some ceiling fans that were marked down from $149 to $49, and they rung up for $39 at the register. They are enery star compliant so can be used anywhere in new construction.

Craigslist, recycled items, and Weird Al
If you reuse and recycle it's likely you buy and sell stuff on Craigslist. If you're reading this, you're likely to have been there. They just had an article on it on Wired magazine
I am a fan of Weird Al(I own UHF and a Best of Collection on video, and have a few of his albums), and he now has a Craigslist Video.

Purse warning.
Don't put purse on hooks high on public toilet doors. Thieves can reach over while you're indisposed and steal them

Stuff Dumped in the Desert
This is just a pile of plaster and stucco corner wire, with some insulation thrown in for good measure.

People tend to dump things that are bulky and heavy or won't fit into their trash cans. Most of the trash companies have a limited number of 'large item' pickups, but I don't think most people know about them, or they don't care to make the arrangement. In any case, you find a lot of carpet, mattresses, couches, roofing material, tree trimming and tires out in the desert. I was just at the dump, and tires have a $5.18/each surcharge in addition to the weight fee. I didn't pick anything up here, I just wanted a post of some of the things I see.

Things I've found
I take walks in the desert and unfortunately people use the desert as a dump. I find all sorts of interesting items. This blog is meant to be a photo history of the items I've found and the use I've made of them.
